Really dressed up to hang out with family members.

Last night was a dinner at a nice Italian place for my brother-in-law's birthday. I was planning to wear a jazzed-up jeans ensemble but was convinced by my sister that I should wear a dress. The dress is Marc by Marc (my favorite brand, my cat's name is Marc Jacobs). It's hard to tell but the flats are sequined and purchased on our Black Friday shopping spree. I love when trends like sequins come in style because it's suddenly okay to dress like a little girl. Same goes for the headband which is silk with a fat bow on the side. My sister and I agreed that the pairing of such a girly outfit with black tights and shoes makes this much more rock and roll. Though, I don't know if any cardigan-ed outfit can be called rock and roll.

Whats the best accessory?

two things i truly love. a great outfit paired with a beautiful bicycle. Nothing is more stylish than seeing people on the streets who know how to dress and pedal at the same time.

With the help of the SF Bike Kitchen, I'm fixing up my centurion single speed right now and transforming it from a wannabe fixie to a beautiful commuter bicycle...updates&photos to come!

suit up, its black friday

I am a proud owner of new HP desktop (8gb Memory / 640GB Hard Drive) & a 10.1" Acer netbook! I feel like taking part in a successul black friday adventure has upped my technology points by a million. Now, more importantly, when you find yourself with zero hours of sleep and having to work on the day after thanksgiving...what do you wear?

I'm wearing my PL tortoise frames, threw on a GAP black/red patterned peasant button up with ruffles down the center. [Not pictured- dark denim straight leg jeans(not skinny & not cuffed). Lastly, brown leather sperry topsiders]

To me this outfit is very bland. I think the only thing saving this outfit are my glasses...and maybe my bangs.


How I could've saved this outfit:

1. wearing nice brown leather watch
2. wrapping a dark indigo scarf around my neck
3. slim fitting herringbone ankle pants
4. 3 1/2" black suede ankle boots

Can you imagine that outfit??! It would be a suiting up that even barney would appreciate. RIP...HIMYM

People say I dress like man.

Yes 'tis true, I do it on purpose. I would describe my style as menswear inspired definitely. I like to channel nautical themes as well. through all this, I also try to make sure I still look like a girl.

I don't really want to define my style but I will tell you what I try to achieve when I wear my clothes. My goal with style and fashion is to be able to wear an outfit and make it look effortless. Its about capturing a sense of confidence with your own style that will make any outfit beautiful. V does this with her leotards and L pulls it off with her cardigans.

To conclude this post, I share with you five staple pieces every boy/girl should have:

1. sperry topsiders (I got my first pair when i was 15 and they remain my footwear of choice today)
2. heather gray crew neck pullover sweatshirt

Shopping Tip #1: Never underestimate the power of discount clothing stores.

Yesterday Emily & I went to Nordstrom Rack after running some errands, and the stars aligned for us.

Shopping Tip #2: go to nordstrom rack & you'll never buy jeans at full price ever again.

I found two pairs of PERFECT FITTING black denim J Brand Jeans for $60 each (original $200). One was a low rise pencil leg fit with gold stitching that ended right above my ankle. I picture wearing these jeans when I want to feel nautical (which is pretty often). The other was a pair of long super slim straight leg jeans that will be my new staple black denim to replace my worn in cheap mondays. These jeans are awesome for two reasons - they are super super black, and they fit like a second skin.

Shopping Tip #3: go to nordstrom rack & buy a pair of FILA leggings

A couple years back I bought a pair of AA leggings, and I was so dissatisfied with the fit. They were short, they were loose near the knees and they faded too quickly. At the rack, emily found the SOFTEST, most perfect fitting lycra/cotton black leggings by FILA! Lets just say, they fit like a DREAM and we ended up buying 5 pairs! I wore them to bike into work, and i couldnt bear to take them off-they were so comfy. Needless to say I wore them under my skirt thinking it was ok since its thanksgiving eve. I love my FILA leggings!

Out for tacos in Ocean Beach

I attempted in my first blog-able outfit today to channel Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz. There was many a Halloween and Purim in which I dressed up as her and therefore it's familiar. I wore my checked blue Gap flannel shirt with jeans and my red flats from Target that I got for $13. The shirt was bought via Vanessa's sick Gap employee discount at 50% off. The jeans are Levi's and were purchased on an amazing Macy's sale day with my mom for under $20. The most important item of note is the amazing Marc by Marc Jacobs leather bag on my shoulder, a recent splurge that has taken each and every one of my outfits to the next level.

We went out to taco's in Ocean Beach and the shirt was a perfect choice because it got really fucking hot inside but was freezing outside. Once in the parking lot, a relatively scruffy looking man complimented my "jacket". I said, "It's a shirt, but thanks". After a few more choice words I found out he was from out of town. Typical.

Welcome to our blog

Jessica, Vanessa, and I have known each other since freshmen year of college when we had DOC section together. I had stalked them on facebook at one point to find them snorting powdered sugar in the dining hall. I was confused and thought they were crazy. Either way, we ended up friends and eventually bonded because of our love of fashion. Jessica recently left San Diego to move for work to San Francisco. Since we all can't see each other on a daily basis, now we can share our fashion high points and daily ensembles in a fun way. We are aiming for three posts a week each.

I've been interested in fashion for as long as I remember. My sister (who now works in costume design) and I used to watch tv and draw sketches of clothing with our Pentel pens. Me and my two older sisters have always been avid shoppers. Our parents say we get it from our Grandmother Lillian who was quite a fashionista in her day. I was very young when she had her first stroke and don't remember her in her prime but like to think I inherited my style from her. I have a vintage Gucci jelly roll handbag in my room at home which is a tribute to her fantastic style.

I would describe my style as being preppy with a bit of hipster/trendy mixed in. I have never been one to jump on trend-trains early. I usually wait it out until there is a version that is more low key. For example, I didn't buy skinny jeans for over a year because I was not down with how most of them fit. My closet is FULL of cardigans, my number one favorite clothing item, and lots of solids. My friends joke that I dress like a teacher. Fittingly, I have been a Hebrew school teacher for 4 years now. I generally am relatively modest and try not to wear anything that I think I will look back on and regret in 10 years.

zana bayne trunk show calls for topshop dress debut

Last night I went to my very first trunk show for famous fashion blogger, Zana Bayne at Shotwell, SF. So much fun! I was told to wear all black. Outfit of choice: topshop black l/s dress with mesh detailing, ripped sheer black tights and brown leather jeffrey campbell buckle lace-ups. (not pictured: rag&bone gray military blazer). FAshion blogger Zana Bayne, hand makes these light tan leather harness/suspenders (as pictured by skinny gaysian in front of me). its such an awesome piece. I am getting it custom-made by Zana so it will fit me and emily. can't wait to wear it out!
